TWO
MORE ARAB TERROR STRIKES HIT ISRAEL
|
| At
least 16 more Israeli civilians were murdered
Sunday (Dec. 2) in two more grisly Palestinian
terror strikes when a suicide bomber blew up a
bus in Haifa, killing 15 people, and an Arab
sniper killed an Israeli in Eilei Sinai, a
Jewish community in the northern Gaza Strip. The
24-hour death toll of 25 Israelis appeared to be
the worst in at least five years, since the
massive bus bombings of February and March 1996
that probably caused Shimon Peres’s election
loss to Benjamin Netanyahu.

End of Islamic Master Bomber 24 November 2001
Mahmoud Abu Hanoud, senior West Bank commander of the
Islamist Hamas military arm, evaded every Israeli attempt to capture him for
more than six years, the while planning and executing some of the most
excruciating terrorist attacks ever inflicted on Israeli civilians. They
included most recently the Tel Aviv disco bombing in June in which 20 teenagers
died and the August pizzeria bombing outrage in Jerusalem, which left 15 people
dead.
Those terrorist strikes were executed after an Israeli elite unit’s failed to
capture him in his village in an operation that ended in three Israeli soldiers
dead. Since then, Abu Hanoud has been living and working in secret, under close
guard.
If the dead bomber appeared to live a charmed life, it was because he was
protected by a close friend from his childhood, Mohamed Dahlan, chief of the
Palestinian Authority’s Preventive Security Service in Gaza.
Israel finally caught up with Abu Hanoud Friday night. An Apache helicopter
missile pinpointed the minivan in which he and two Hamas activists, brothers,
were traveling on a road near Nablus. His two subordinates were killed on the
spot. Hanoud jumped out of the vehicle and tried to escape. The helicopter
chased him and shot him dead.
The fundamentalist Hamas declared three days mourning. The official Palestinian
media reflected pain for the loss of this most active and dedicated of
super-bombers, who was buried in the West Bank city of Jenin (known as
“Suicides City”) Saturday by a funeral procession of tens of thousands.
Hamas political leader Abdel-Aziz al-Rantissi said the attack came under
American sponsorship. “It is a war between us and them.”
Israeli Forces Operate
Against Terrorist
Mastermind Abu Hanoud
November 24, 2001
On the evening of 23 November, Hamas
terrorist mastermind Mahmoud Abu Hanoud, 34, of Asira Shamalieh, was
killed by Israel security forces in an initiated operation near Nablus (Shechem).
Abu Hanoud, a wanted fugitive, and senior commander of Hamas terrorist
operations, was personally involved in a lengthy series of bombings
directed against Israeli civilians, took part in the overall planning of
Hamas operations in the West Bank, was responsible for the wave of
suicide bombings in July and September of 1997 in which he dispatched
five suicide bombers, and was behind the 1999 suicide bombings in
Tiberias and Haifa.
In addition, Abu Hanoud was a senior 'handler' in the recent suicide
bombings at Sbarro in Jerusalem and the Dolphinarium in Tel Aviv, and
also 'controlled' a number of suicide terrorists who were recently
intercepted in Tulkarm by Israeli security
forced before they carried out their attacks. In the past few days,
Hanoud was busy preparing additional suicide attacks against Israel.
In an attempt to apprehend Abu Hanoud in Asira Shamalieh in August 2000,
three soldiers of Israel's elite 'Duvdevan' counter-terrorist unit were
killed by friendly fire. Abu Hanoud was subsequently arrested by the
Palestinian Authority, however,
in May 2001, he was released from PA custody and his whereabouts became
unknown.
In last night's operation, two additional terrorist were also killed:
- Aimou Hashaika, 34, of the village of Talouza, a Hamas terrorist
operative who served as one of Abu Hanoud's top Lieutenants and assisted
in carrying out terrorist attacks.
- Mamoul Hashaika, 30, of the village of Talouza, also a Hamas
operative. |

Minister of Justice,
Meir Sheetrit comments on death of Hamas terrorist leader - Mahmoud abu
Hunood.
25 November 2001
The Minister of Justice, Meir
Sheetrit, had commented this morning on
Israeli radio about the death of Hamas terrorist leader - Mahmoud abu
Hunood.
The minister had said that the I.D.F. had finally
dispensed with this
murderous terrorist who was responsible for the deaths of so many innocent
civilians. He said that he has no doubt that if anyone deserved such an
action against him, abu hunood is definitely the first on that list.
He stated that this action is a clear act of self
defense by the State
of Israel, much like the U.S. is allowed to act in Afghanistan as it does
today, all for the capture of particularly one individual, so can Israel
act
against those who engage in terror against it.
When asked if this act could escalate the situation he
replied that the
fact is that regardless of such acts by Israel, those who seek to harm us
will continue with their incessant attacks.
The Minister concluded by saying that Israel is ready
and willing to
continue moving forward in the process started by the Mitchell committee
and
the Tenent recommendations. If the Palestinians are willing to cooperate
and
stop terrorism completely, then Israel would be willing, as it always have
been, to return to the negotiating table. |

Attempt at Smuggling Weapons
into the
Palestinian Authority Prevented
25 November 2001
Yesterday, a truck carrying
vegetables, which aroused suspicion, was stopped yesterday by IDF soldiers
from the Paratroopers Brigade who manned the Rama Roadblock south of
Ramallah. A search of the truck resulted in the discovery among the
vegetables fifteen sacks that contained ammunition for M-16 rifles and
handguns.
This operation by the soldiers prevented an addition to the military
arsenal located in the Palestinian Authority. |

Shin Bet uncovers
Iraqi-sponsored Palestinian terror cell - smuggled in weapons using PA
VIP pass so car not inspected
25 November 2001
The Shin Bet security service
recently arrested 15 Palestinians who were members in a terror group that
was operated by Iraq. The detainees, residents of the West Bank cities of
Ramallah and Jenin, are connected to the pro-Iraqi Palestine Liberation
Front (PLF).
Some of those arrested underwent military training in Iraq.
The PLF carried out the 1985 hijacking of the Achille Lauro cruise ship
during which they held some 450 passengers for three days and murdered
American Leon Klinghoffer.
The investigation has found that Iraqi intelligence agents delivered the
funding for the group's operations. It also found that some weapons were
smuggled in the West Bank via the Allenby bridge in the car of Abed al
Razak Yechia because. Yechia, a Palestinian, held a VIP permit which
exempted his car from searches by Israel security at the border.
Members of the group admitted to the July kidnapping and murder of Israeli
teen Yuri Gushstein from the Jerusalem neighborhood of Pisgat Ze'ev and
planting an explosive device at the Checkpoint Junction near Haifa which
lightly injured five Israelis.
According to the Shin Bet, members of the group planned to carry out high
profile attacks at the Ben Gurion International Airport, in central
Jerusalem and in Tel Aviv.

Death of Palestinians in an
explosion in Khan Yunes on Thursday
25 November 2001
The IDF expresses its condolences for the
death of the five Palestinian children that were killed on Thursday 22/11/01 in an explosion in the
entrance of Khan Yunes.
The place in which the children were killed is open terrain, in which a Palestinian sandbag post is posted, near an IDF post. From this spot,
terrorists shoot mortar bomb fire against tanks and light infantry daily
at civilians and IDF forces in Gush Katif in general and specifically at
the forces near that post.
From the moment of the explosion an operational investigation began to examine the circumstances of the incident.
From an initial examination carried out by the Commander of the South command, Maj. Gen. Doron Almog, the possibility arises that the children
were killed as a result of tempering with an explosive charge that an
IDF Force placed in the sandbag post that was used for shooting and
terrorist activity against our forces. This post is placed in open terrain,
outside of the residential area.
As said, the investigation is not over and with its completion the
relevant operational conclusions will be concluded. The IDF spokesperson emphasizes that the activity in the open terrain
was aimed against terrorists and again expresses his condolences for the
death of the children. The IDF will investigate the incident till completion.

The State of Israel has issued the following talking points
which addresses the current situation, in
particular, the terrorist attack on the French Hill. Feel free to pass these
statements to those who you feel should read it. In addition, your comments, as
always are most welcome.
The Terrorist Attacks in French Hill
Sunday's terrorist attack on a Israeli bus at the French Hill Junction,
in Jerusalem (November 4, 2001), raises the following issues:
1. This was a terrorist attack perpetrated with the intention of killing
as many innocent Israeli civilians as possible. The former British
Ambassador to the UN recently stated to the BBC that terrorism is
defined by the means used by the attacker, while the circumstances
behind the attack are irrelevant. Terrorism, even if it is carried out
under the guise of a national liberation struggle, is still terrorism. |
A woman wounded when an Israeli public bus came under
fire from a gunman, is brought to an |
2. The terrorist attack in French Hill could have been
prevented, if Arafat had fulfilled his obligations to arrest terrorists
and end incitement. He has failed to carry out these obligations and, in
the process, has violated the undertakings that he made personally to
world leaders in general and European leaders in particular. For
instance, Ataf Abayat, the terrorist master-mind who was recently killed
when his car exploded in Bethlehem, should have been in prison - as
Arafat indeed announced on a number of occasions, including in his
conversations with Foreign Minister Shimon Peres. |

Bomb horror hits Tel Aviv disco
Nineteen Israelis were killed and over 90 others were wounded when a suicide bomber blew himself up in a crowd of mostly teenagers waiting in line outside a disco near Tel Aviv's Dolphinarium along the seafront promenade just before midnight on Friday.
All but one of those killed, who included two sisters aged 15 and 18, were youngsters from the former Soviet Union who had planned to attend a dance party at the Dolphin disco.
Others who had been waiting in line to enter an adjacent nightclub known as the Pacha were also caught in the blast.

Terrorists murder Israeli teens near
Tekoa
Two Israeli youths, both 14, residents of the Gush Etzion community of Tekoa
south of Jerusalem, were stoned and then stabbed to death overnight at the
Haritoun Cave, close to the Judean Desert community. The bodies of Ya'acov
(Kobi) Mandell and Yosef (Yossi) Ish-Ran, both 14, were discovered yesterday
morning. Their heads had been smashed in by rocks.
The boys' families only discovered they were missing close to midnight on
Tuesday, after they had skipped school to hike in the wadi. They had thought
the boys went to school, then to a demonstration in Jerusalem.

Little coverage of these brutal killings was given by our local papers. This
obscene act of terrorism was virtually ignored by the local media. The fact
that their faces were battered beyond recognition or that their blood was
smeared on the walls of the cave was never reported. When the story was run,
it was usually accompanied by a photo of a weeping Palestinian parent or
the picture of an injured Palestinian child. We note all too often
that Jewish victims are seldom seen in photos.

SUICIDE BOMBER KILLS ISRAELI DOCTOR
The current conflict in the Middle East claimed two more innocent
civilians, yet the media handled their deaths in quite different
ways. Local newspapers were quick to report that a
12-year-old Palestinian boy was killed by a gunshot to the head during a
funeral in the Gaza Strip. As the body was being lowered into the ground
at the cemetery, next to a Jewish settlement, several dozen Palestinian gunmen
fired 21 shots into the air as a sign of respect. The Israeli military said
the shots were directed at the settlement. Bursts of gunfire came from the
direction of the nearby settlement which caused the boy's death. It is not
clear where the bullet that killed the young boy originated. This story received
considerable press, while the following story about the death of an
Israeli doctor at the hands of a Palestenian suicide bomber, was not reported
in the press.
(April 20, 2001) Dr. Mario Goldin, 53, from Kfar Sava, was murdered on Sunday
and 61 people wounded when a Palestinian terrorist strapped with a large
bomb blew himself up at a bus stop at a main intersection, a few hundred
meters from Meir Hospital in Kfar Sava, HA'ARETZ reported. Goldin, married
with three children, was in charge of the pain clinic at the Beit Levinstein
rehabilitation center, and also worked at Meir Hospital treating many victims
of terror attacks. Most of the 61 wounded suffered from shock and minor injuries
and were later released. A 14-year-old boy underwent surgery and is in critical
but stable condition at Meir Hospital.
There have been 10 bombings or attempted attacks in the Sharon region over
the past few weeks, including those in Kfar Sava, Petah Tikva, Netanya, Neveh
Yamim, Or Yehuda and Hod Hasharon. Hamas claimed responsibility on Monday
for the attack and said that the suicide bomber was Imad Kamel al-Zbaidi,
a resident of the West Bank city of Nablus. According to THE JERUSALEM POST,
in response to the bombing, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said, "The Palestinian
Authority is not working in accordance with the agreements it is committed
to regarding preventing acts of terror against Israel." Sharon re-iterated
that Israel's primary goal is to restore security to the citizens of Israel.
Meanwhile, a car bomb exploded today in a crowded market in the Tel Aviv
suburb of Or Yehuda. Early reports indicated that eight people were lightly
injured in the suspected terror attack. Police said the explosion was caused
by a nail-filled pipe bomb in the trunk of the car that was stolen from a
Jerusalem resident. In another incident, a bomb exploded in Haifa on Sunday
near a restaurant at a busy intersection. Three policemen were lightly injured
and treated in a nearby hospital. Haifa police spokesman Yehuda Maman said
on Monday that it was highly probable that Palestinian terrorists were
responsible for the attack. Explosives were hidden in a bag and "a passer-by
touched the bag, felt something heavy inside and called the police. When
people were being cleared away, it went off," Maman said.

MAGEN DAVID ADOM PARAMEDICS SAVE PALESTINIAN INFANT
As thousands attended the Hebron funeral of
10-month-old Shalhevet Pass yesterday, Magen David Adom paramedics worked
frantically to resuscitate an unconscious 8-month-old Palestinian infant
with a high fever, whose parents had brought him to the entrance of the
settlement of Shavei Shomron. After treating the child, the Israelis coordinated
with the Palestinian Red Crescent ambulance service, which transferred him
to a Nablus hospital.
Paramedic Benzion Landsberg said the baby was the first patient to be treated
in the community's new trauma unit, which opened four days ago. He said officials
did not even know the baby's name, as his hysterical parents spoke neither
Hebrew nor English.
"When they brought him to us, he was unconscious and not breathing. We
resuscitated him in the new unit, and after his condition improved bathed
him to bring down his temperature. When he was finally handed over to the
Palestinian ambulance crew, his condition had improved greatly," he said.
"It is such a cynical situation - as Shalhevet is being buried in Hebron,
we save the life of a Palestinian baby," he added.
